Complete protection in hospitals:
Klinikum Minden
With the new construction of the Johannes Wesling Klinikum Minden in only a good three years of construction time a clinic has been created with 864 beds to provide the best possible access nationwide. The hospital was planned in accordance with the most modern medical and operational concepts, and equipped with state-of-the-art of technology. The total building length is 313 metres. The clinic has around 46,000 square metres of floor space at its disposal.
Over 112 kilometres of ducts were fitted for the sprinkler protection to extend to all areas of the hospital. 600 Preaction Sprinklers were installed in the particularly sensitive areas in ORs, CTs, intensive care stations and rooms with expensive medical equipment. They minimise the risk of faulty activation and offer twice the security. In the case of inadvertent damage, such as works on building furnishings, the patented Preaction Sprinklers prevent water from entering unintentionally and hence causing damage to the building and fittings. Blanket coverage fire detectors were also installed in addition to the total of 22,500 sprinklers.
Two hydrant cabinets supplied with foam guarantee adequate protection of the helicopter landing pad. In contrast to pure water foam is excellently suited for extinguishing burning liquids, such as kerosene, as it takes advantage of the different extinguishing effects: cooling, suffocating, separating, covering, absorbing and suppressing. Either individually or together, this ensures rapid extinguishing.
