OneU active extinguishing system for IT racks:
A unique solution with only one height unit
In IT and telecommunications systems, fire protection has the highest priority. In many cases, interruptions to operations caused by a fire in server rooms leave a company helpless. Loss of data and inability to deliver services lead to catastrophic consequences for the company affected. Very early fire detection and rapid extinguishing using the residue-free extinguishing agent Novec™ 1230 is an effective way of preventing this.
Minimax’s OneU 19” active extinguishing system meets all these requirements. It is the perfect fire protection solution for sensitive network and server cabinets. As soon as even a small amount of smoke develops – caused for example by a smouldering cable or circuit board component – two highly sensitive smoke detectors set off an alarm. A suction system allows the two detectors to react at the first sign of an incipient fire. An intelligent micro-controller then controls the interruption of power supply for IT ventilators or for the whole server. In most cases this alone is enough to prevent a fire. However should the fire continue to develop, the extinguishing agent flows to the OneU extinguishing nozzle, where it vaporises and spreads throughout the whole cabinet within a fraction of a second. The fire is thus extinguished, without any traces of residue, before it can spread. A battery-buffered emergency power supply system integrated in the system provides the extinguishing system with power for up to four hours, even where there is a breakdown in power supply.
A suction smoke system, extinguishing agent container, trigger mechanism, alarm control panel and battery-buffered emergency power supply – Minimax has been able to fit all this into a robust steel housing only 44 mm high. Thus OneU is a complete system which takes up only one height unit in the IT rack.
OneU is not only space-saving; it is also designed in a very practical way. The unique DockingSlot mechanism allows the fire protection system to be pulled out of the cabinet to be protected (and pushed back in again) in seconds, and with just a few movements – for example for maintenance purposes or following a successful extinguishing operation. The air conditioning is not affected and servers and other equipment do not have to be shut down – there is no restriction of the required high degree of availability of technical installations.
